Signs in the Heavens

Mt Sangeang and Mt Sinai
Artist’s depiction of Moses and the Israelites at Mt. Sinai, c. 1445 BC and the Mt. Sangeang eruption – May 30, 2014

In c. 1445 BC, Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. Fifty days out, they came to Mount Sinai to celebrate the Feast of Pentecost. As Moses approached the Mount Sinai, it was, “… covered with smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire.” “The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently.” (Exodus 19:18, NIV)

Fifty days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ there was another great trembling. “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” (Acts 2:1-4, NIV)

On Friday, May 30, 2014, just a few days before Pentecost, something quite interesting happened. Two volcanoes began to erupt. Mount Sangeang in Indonesia erupted with immense power, sending ash 12 miles in the sky. The similarity of the pronunciation “Sangeang” to “Sinai” in the English is uncanny (Listen to it – here). Secondly, Mount Pavlov in Alaska (originating from “Paul” or “humble man”) began to erupt as well.

The Lord often gives us signs in the heavens and the earth that signify what He is doing or about to do on the earth. Could this be a sign in the heavens? I believe it very well could be. I believe we are about to be very surprised by what God is about to do on this earth in regards to the pouring out of His Spirit.

“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the Lord has said, even among the survivors whom the Lord calls.” (Joel 2:28-32, NIV)

I believe also that the eruption of Pavlof (“humble man”) signifies the beginning of the rise the humble, God-fearing men and women; and at the same time, the humbling of the proud.

“Suddenly, in an instant, the Lord Almighty will come with thunder and earthquake and great noise, with windstorm and tempest and flames of a devouring fire.” (Isaiah 29:5-6, NIV)

“Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught. Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.” (Isaiah 29:13-14, NIV)

“Once more the humble will rejoice in the Lord; the needy will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. The ruthless will vanish, the mockers will disappear, and all who have an eye for evil will be cut down…” (Isaiah 29:19-20, NIV)

Is the time we are entering another season of Pentecost as in the earlier days? I believe not. Jesus promised that greater things are coming…and I fully expect to see it in my lifetime. I believe we are seeing an increase of this now!

“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the Lord Almighty. ‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.” (Haggai 2:6-9, NIV)

May God Richly Bless You,

Stu Bents

Neville Johnson (Australia) writes about an experience that He had with the Lord in conjunction with this event in his article, “The Cloud is Moving,” which I highly recommend that you read: http://www.theacademy.org.au/training/neville/Cloud.pdf
